Assam Chief Minister and Congress-turned-BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday hit back at the Congress’ allegations of corruption against him saying that no one can be “more corrupt” than the Gandhis.

Amid the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, Rahul Gandhi had called Sarma as the “most corrupt CM in the country” at several public gatherings over the last two days. Gandhi had also said that the Sarma can “give lessons” to Chief Ministers in “BJP-ruled” states on “how to indulge” in corruption.

“Anything abusive, that comes from the so called Gandhi family, I consider it as a blessing. Because this gives me the energy to fight against a family which considers itself to be the most powerful,” Sarma posted in X.

He also said, “But I want to ask only one thing, can any one be more corrupt then the Gandhi’s? – Bofors Scam, National Herald Scam, Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the escape of Anderson, 2G scam, Coal Scam, etc (the list is huge and it goes on & on ) (sic)”.

On Thursday, Sarma had retorted to the “most corrupt” CM jibe, saying that the Gandhi family are the “most corrupt” and using a “duplicate” surname.

Sarma had added, “This is not ‘Nyay Yatra, it’s ‘Miya Yatra’. Wherever there are Muslims, they visit those places.”

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will travel through Assam till January 25, travelling a total of 833 km across 17 districts. The march set off from Boginadi in Lakhimpur district on Saturday. The journey will resume from Harmuti in the afternoon and enter Arunachal Pradesh through Gumto, where the flag handover ceremony will be held.

In the neighbouring state, Gandhi is scheduled to take part in a ‘padayatra’ (foot march) from Meithun Gate, Itanagar, and address a meeting. The entourage will spend the night at Chimpu village near Itanagar, as per the schedule.

The Yatra will return to Assam on Sunday. The 6,713-km Manipur-to-Mumbai Yatra over the span of 67 days will pass through 110 districts in 15 states. The Yatra is being done on foot as well as bus ride.
