Lok Sabha Election 2024, Bihar Result 2024 Highlights: The counting of votes has come to end and with that the people’s verdict has been announced.
At the national level, the BJP claimed 240 seats out of 543, while Congress managed to garner support for 99. In Bihar, the BJP and the JD(U) won 12 seats each. The Bhartiya Janta party won from Paschim Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Madhubani, Araria, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Maharajganj, Saran, Ujiarpur, Begusarai, Patna Sahib and Nawada.
Some of the seats where the JD(U) won are – Bhagalpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Nalanda and Munger.
The electoral battle in Bihar is one of the most keenly watched given the frequently changing dynamics in the political landscape in the state. The elections were seen as a litmus test for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) which has switched sides again to return to the NDA ahead of the Lok Sabha election results.

The counting of votes to decide the fate on 40 Lok Sabha constituencies has begun and the trends will be available shortly. The counting of ballot paper votes will be carried out first followed by the counting of EVM votes.

The Congress has cited the results of the Exit Pols in 2004 when all exit polls had predicted a return of the BJP government, guided by the 'India Shining' campaign. The Bihar unit of the Congress has claimed that the exit polls will be proven wrong like 2004 and Narendra Modi's exit was certain come June 4.
The Congress party on Sunday categorically dismissed the exit poll results that showed the BJP-led NDA returning to power with a stronger mandate. While Rahul Gandhi termed the exit polls a ploy by the "Modi media", Mallikarjun Kharge maintained that the INDIA bloc will emerge victorious in 295 seats.
Within the INDIA alliance in Bihar, the RJD is contesting 26 seats, the Congress nine seats, and the Left parties five seats. The seat-sharing arrangement was reached after several rounds of meetings and accusations that the Congress was deliberately delaying seat-sharing talks hoping for gains in the Assembly elections held in five states last year.
BJP's Bihar ally JD(U) on Monday demanded early Assembly elections in Bihqar in line with the Centre’s push for the implementation of the “one nation, one election” idea. The JD(U), however, said this had nothing to do with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Delhi visit on Monday.
The exit polls so far have predicted the return of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre with a bigger mandate than 2014 and 2019. As per all exit polls, Narendra Modi is predicted to return as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Monday, a day ahead of the declaration of the Lok Sabha election results. While there is no official word on the agenda of the meeting, JD(U) leaders said that post-poll scenarios may have been discussed.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar arrived in Delhi on Monday soon after the declaration of the exit poll results. He is scheduled to meet top leaders of the BJP during his visit to the capital. It is likely that the Chief Minister brings up the issue of cabinet berths for his party during his meeting with the BJP top brass.
The counting process will be carried out amid a three-tier security cover. The first level of security cover at the counting center will be of the district police force. This will be within a hundred-meter radius of the centre. Only those with authorized passes will be allowed to enter this enclosure. The second circle will be of Bihar Armed Police. They will check all persons entering the counting centre. The third security layer will be of central forces. No electronic items such as mobile phones, calculators, cameras etc will be allowed inside the counting centres.
The counting of votes will begin at 8 AM at 40 designated counting centres in Bihar. As many as 80 counting observers will oversee the counting process at these 40 counting centres. Victory processions will be banned across the state after the declaration of results as per the orders of the Election Commission of India.
The counting of votes for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state will begin at 8 AM on Tuesday, June 4. The first trends are expected to be out shortly after 8 AM as ballot paper counting is taken up first. The EVM trends are expected to be out after 9 AM.
Having been relegated to the sidelines in the 2019 general elections, the RJD sees the battle in 2024 as a crucial opportunity to stage a comeback. The absence of any formidable BJP leader that emerge as the face of the alliance automatically gives the RJD an upper hand in the state during Assembly polls, but the situation changes during Lok Sabha when the face is Narendra Modi.
The RJD, once seen as a formidable challenger to the BJP, failed to win even a single seat in the state in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Modi wave, backed by a strong feeling of nationalism after the Balakot strikes, translated into a mega victory for the NDA.
Bihar was among the epicentres of the Ram Janmbhoomi movement with people from several villages in the state being part for decades. The test for the BJP has been to translate the euphoria that gripped the country at the consecration ceremony in January this year into votes in Bihar. The BJP has played the Hindu card in the state, hoping to counter the Muslim-Yadav consolidation that has traditionally backed the RJD.
Having set off with a target of NDA winning over 400 Lok Sabha seats in the country, the BJP is pinning its hopes on maintaining its near-dominance in the Hindi heartland states, including Bihar, where it did exceedingly well in the previous election. Bihar has backed Narendra Modi in the last two elections and the BJP would hope that the trend continues this time too.
Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD has fought a spirited battle for the Opposition in the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. With a legacy of his father Lalu Prasad Yadav to uphold, Tejashwi has been seen as the most prominent face among Opposition leaders during the Bihar campaign. While exit polls have predicted a less-than-impressive show by the party, Tejashwi would hope to turn the tables come June 4.
Frequent U-turns by Nitish Kumar notwithstanding, the NDA in Bihar is projected an upper hand to the NDA, though it may not be able to repeat its tally of 39 secured in the 2019 polls. India Today-Axis My India has predicted 29-33 seats for the NDA and 7-10 seats for the INDIA bloc. Today's Chanakya has predicted 36 seats for the NDA, CVoter has predicted 34-38, PMARQ and Matrize 37, and Jan Ki baat, 32-37 of the 40 seats in the state.
Of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party contested 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state while the Janata Dal (United) contested on 16 seats. In the 2019 elections, the BJP bagged 17 seats while the JD(U) won 16, pushing the NDA's tally to 39 seats. Will Nitish Kumar's frequent volte-faces impact the NDA's prospects?
