Bihar Election Result Constituency-Wise Early Trends: The Election Commission began tallying votes cast during the recent Bihar Assembly elections on Friday. Exit polls have overwhelmingly predicted a victory for the ruling coalition — with some projecting more than 150 seats for the NDA.

Early trend data shared by News18 showed the NDA taking a lead in more than 80 states, while the Mahagathbandhan led in more than 50. The Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj Party was a distant third with leads in only two seats. The Election Commission of India is yet to announce winners for any of the 243 seats in the Bihar Assembly.

The counting of votes began amid tight security at 8:00 am on Friday. Officials began tallying postal ballots, with the counting of EVM votes scheduled to start at 8:30 am. Elaborate security arrangements are in place, with 4,372 counting tables and over 18,000 counting agents overseeing the process. According to the ECI’s official press note, 2,616 candidates and 12 recognised political parties participated in the two-phase polls on November 6 and 11, and none requested repolling in any constituency.

What did the exit polls say? Will there be a hung assembly?

All major exit polls had predicted a return of the NDA government in Bihar with a big victory over the Mahagathbandhan. They also unanimously forecast a poor electoral debut for Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj Party. Some however broached the possibility of a tight race where no side crossed the halfway mark.

The NDA secured a majority in the assembly and won 125 seats during the previous election — with Nitish Kumar taking oath as Chief Minister. But the JDU chief broke the alliance in August 2022 to form a fresh government with the RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan. His romance with the RJD lasted for less than two years before Kumar returned to the NDA fold ahead of parliamentary election in January 2024.
