Bihar Election 2025 Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections are “an election to write a new chapter of the state’s prosperity.” Addressing BJP workers from poll-bound Bihar through the Mera Booth Sabse Majboot programme, he praised the state’s youth and women for driving development under the NDA government.

Modi attacked the opposition alliance, saying, “Those who call themselves the ‘Gathbandhan,’ whom the people of Bihar call the ‘Lathbandhan,’ only know how to use the lathi and keep fighting.” He added that “when there’s stability, development picks up pace,” crediting the NDA for Bihar’s progress.

Referring to the festive season, the Prime Minister said, “Amidst the festive fervour, preparations for the worship of Chhathi Maiya are also in full swing. Alongside all this, Bihar is also celebrating the grand festival of democracy. This is an election to write a new chapter of Bihar’s prosperity. The youth of Bihar have a very significant role in this.”

He expressed confidence that the people of Bihar will not allow “jungle raj” to return. “After removing jungle raj, today, the people of Bihar under no circumstances want to allow it to come back. This is the power of the conscious citizens of Bihar,” he said.

Earlier during the day, The Mahagathbandhan announced RJD leader and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial face for the Bihar assembly elections. At a press conference with all coalition partners present, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot said the decision had the support of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Gehlot also mentioned that if the INDIA bloc forms the government, VIP chief Mukesh Sahani would become deputy chief minister, along with another leader from the backward class sharing the post.

“Everyone should be worried (about the situation in the country). This is why I can say that after consulting Kharge ji, Rahul ji, and others who are sitting here, that Tejashwi Yadav is the CM candidate for this election. He is a young person. He has a long future and the public will support him,” Gehlot said at the press conference.
