ECI Bihar Assembly Election 2025 Phase 1 Constituency Wise Polling LIVE: Two months, over 10 parties, numerous rallies, and shifting narratives — the Bihar elections 2025 have been a saga of strength, loyalty, and change. The first phase concluded today, with voters across 121 of the 243 constituencies casting their ballots, deciding the fate of hundreds of candidates.
Crucial Test for State and National Politics
As always, Bihar remains a key political battleground. The state sends 40 members to the Lok Sabha, the third-highest after Uttar Pradesh (80) and West Bengal & Andhra Pradesh (42). Several regional parties, central to their respective alliances, have only this election to prove their relevance. This includes Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), Chirag Paswan’s LJP(RV), and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM(S), among others.
Though limited to the state, these parties have produced leaders who have carved their names in Indian politics.
Bihar election 2025 phase 1
Several top guns of the parties were in fray today. These include Tejashwi Yadav, his brother Tej Pratap Yadav, Deputy CMs Samrat Chouhdary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Anant Singh among others. Phase 1 will see 3.75 crore voters in the state deciding the fate of a total of 1,314 candidates.
The main contest is between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition’s Mahagathbandhan alliance. However, Prashant Kishor’s electrifying campaign and as he says, a third option for Bihar’ through Jan Suraaj could prove trouble for the leading two.
AIMIM is also contesting on 25 seats, attracting Muslim voters and giving another headache to the ruling NDA and opposition’s INDIA coalition.
How numbers in Phase 1 look like
As per the Election Commission of India, Digha has the maximum number of about 4.58 lakh voters out of 121 seats going to polls, while Barbigha in Sheikhpura district has the lowest of 2.32 lakh voters. A maximum of 20 candidates are in fray in
Kurhani and Muzaffarpur, whereas the reserved constituencies of Bhorey and Alauli, besides Parbatta, have five candidates each.
The commission has made available 45,341 polling stations for 3.75 crore voters, of which, 10.72 lakh are new electors. As per PTI, the total population of these constituencies, as stated by the ECI, was 6.60 crore. This indicates that nearly three crore people are not in the voters’ list, as a result of SIR, being underage and due to other unspecified reasons.

Polling for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections concluded at 6 PM across 121 constituencies spread over 18 districts. The Election Commission reported a peaceful voting process with a turnout of over 60% recorded till 5 PM.

Exuding confidence as polling took place on Thursday for the Mahua seat, Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) founder Tej Pratap Yadav expressed optimism about his chances of winning and said his party is set to become a "serious political force" after the Bihar elections. The JJD is contesting 44 seats in the state.
"I am confident the people of Mahua will bless me again. Why won't they? I have worked for them, and they know it," Yadav told PTI-Video.
Commenting on BJP leaders praising him, he said, "If someone does good work, they should be congratulated. If they do bad work, they should be questioned. We believe in doing good work, and people will appreciate us."
When asked about reports of a recent meeting with his mother, former CM Rabri Devi, Yadav clarified that he has not met either of his parents since leaving home.
On speculation about aligning with the BJP or the opposition coalition led by his estranged brother Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, he chose not to comment.
On being asked if he will emerge victorious in Mahua, Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav said, “Why wouldn’t people bless us? We’ve worked here, so of course, they’ll bless us.”
When asked about reports of his meeting with his mother and former CM Rabri Devi, the JJD leader said, “Who’s spreading these false rumours that I met her? Ever since I left home, I have neither met my mother nor my father (Lalu Prasad Yadav).”
Responding to a question on his party’s candidates and their prospects, Tej Pratap said, “Our party is already established, and once we win these elections, we’ll be firmly rooted. Look, we’re not the kind to do bad work. We’ll do good work, and people will appreciate it.”

National President of Jan Shakti Janata Dal and candidate from Mahua Assembly constituency Tej Pratap Yadav on Thursday hinted at possibility of coalition after the elections are over.
"...No matter whose government it is, we will stand with the one that provides employment to the common man, stops migration, and brings change in Bihar," he said.
Tej Prata said the people would make and break things. "The legacy is of Lohia ji and Karpoori Thakur. The ideology is of social justice, total change, total revolution. Just as our father used to say that if we get the opportunity to become Prime Minister, why would we leave it, similarly, if we get the opportunity to become Chief Minister, why would we leave it... Whether we will become or not, this will be decided on the 14th, but we are not so greedy that we have to sit on the chair," he added.
