Bengaluru rains: The city, commonly known as the Silicon Valley of India, has enjoyed a refreshing downpour over the past 24 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 25.4°C and a minimum of 20.7°C, with 3.3 mm of rainfall. As heavy rain is expected in the coming days, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for several regions in Karnataka, particularly along the coast.

On October 15, Bengaluru is expected to see heavy rain throughout the day, with temperatures reaching around 25°C. Districts such as Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Kolar, and Mysuru may experience particularly heavy downpours. The rain is expected to persist on October 16, with temperatures possibly rising slightly to 26°C. This wet weather pattern will continue to impact Bengaluru and surrounding districts like Chamarajanagar, Mandya, and Ramanagara, lasting through October 17, with a high of 27°C.

In coastal Karnataka, districts including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are also under alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. In southern regions such as Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Mandya, and Mysuru, significant rain could lead to local disruptions. Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and be prepared for potential challenges.

Tamil Nadu shuts schools amid heavy rain warnings

Meanwhile in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin reviewed preparations following the IMD’s forecast of heavy rain caused by a developing low-pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to intensify and move toward the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh in the next few days.

As a precaution, the state government declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts on October 15.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rain in several districts from October 15 to October 17, with extremely heavy rain expected in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and other areas. Schools are closed as a precaution, and IT firms have been advised to allow employees to work from home. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed for relief operations, and officials are on high alert for potential flooding.
