Folks in Bengaluru are facing extended power cuts that are likely to continue till today (December 19). Residents in and around Byadarahalli in west Bengaluru are likely to experience prolonged power disruptions as the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) announced emergency maintenance and capacity upgradation work. The utility has said the interruptions are tied to converter capacity enhancement at the Byadarahalli Power Distribution Centre.
Power cut timings
According to BESCOM, the scheduled outage window is 12 hours in a day starting from 10 am till 10 pm. While BESCOM has outlined a 12-hour interruption slot, officials caution that restoration may not be uniform across all streets. Even if power returns earlier in some areas, others connected to nearby feeders may see staggered supply restoration as systems stabilise after the upgrade work.
Areas likely to be affected
BESCOM’s West Circle has identified several localities that may face power cuts during the scheduled window. These include Madeshwara Nagar, Prasanna Layout, Hosahalli, Industrial Area, Herohalli, Tunga Nagar, Vishweshwara Nagar, Anjana Nagar, Annapoorneshwari Nagar, Sunkadakatte, Nilagiri Hegganahalli, Kodigehalli, Skanda Nagar, Chikkagollarahatti, Seegehalli, Padmavathi Industrial Area, Shantilal Layout, BBMP Plant area, Rangegowda Layout, Kannahalli, Sunkadakatte Industrial Area, D Group Layout and areas around RHCS Layout.
Residents living just outside these listed neighbourhoods may also experience low voltage, brief power trips or delayed restoration if their homes are connected to the same feeder network. Such fluctuations are common during large-scale capacity enhancement projects.
BESCOM advises residents over power cut
BESCOM advised residents of Bengaluru over the power disruption as long electricity cuts during daytime can affect daily routines. The long power disruptions mostly hit water supply, cooking, remote work and lift operations in apartment buildings. The power supply board has also asked residents to store adequate water before 10 am, particularly in buildings dependent on borewell pumps or sump motors.
Residents were further advised to charge essential devices early, keep power banks ready and avoid the use of heavy electrical appliances immediately after electricity is restored.
Moreover, the apartment associations were also advised to plan generator usage carefully, ensure sufficient fuel availability and clearly communicate backup power schedules to residents. Small businesses, especially those in industrial layouts and commercial clusters, were advised to consider rescheduling high-load activities outside the outage window or arranging temporary backup solutions for billing and digital payments.

BESCOM asked consumers to use its WhatsApp helplines for electricity-related complaints and updates. For Bengaluru, the zone-wise numbers are:
