In yet another setback for the grand-old party, the working president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Rana Goswami, resigned from the post and also as an active member of the party on Wednesday.

In a letter addressed to All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K C Venugopal, Goswami wrote, “I beg to the state that I am tendering my resignation as the working President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as an active member of the Indian National Congress (INC).

Earlier on February 14, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that four Congress MLAs have extended their support to the state government, ANI reported.

Goswami’s decision to quit the party comes amid a resignation streak by Congress leaders. In the past few weeks, several senior leaders, including Ashok Chavan, Baba Siddique, Basavraj Patil and Milind Deora, among others, have quit from the party.
