ASCI upholds complaints against 25 ads
Advertising watchdog Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has upheld complaints against 25 ads in the month of July. The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of ASCI upheld a complaint against a Pepsodent Germicheck Magnet toothpaste ad, which claimed that it ?is better than the well-known toothpaste?, as false and misleading. The claims of a Boost ad that ?the consumption of Boost not only increases oxygen consumption but gives three times more stamina? were found to be misleading. The CCC concluded that the claim made by Maxo Max Power Liquid ad, which stated ?one drop of Maxo is enough to get rid of mosquitoes?, was not substantiated. Ponds Gen White?s TVC?s claim that it is the first cream that gives ?spotless fairness? was not substantiated adequately and the complaint was upheld. The claim for CSAT Classroom Program (Career Launcher) ? ?80+ Selections in CS Prelims ?11? ? made in its print ad was found to be unsubstantiated. In the case of the print ad for Revital Woman, which claims of several health benefits, the CCC concluded that in the absence of specific scientific data, these claims were not substantiated.
Karan Rawat joins Umbrella Design as president & ECD
Karan Rawat, former executive creative director, Grey, has joined Bhupal Ramnathkar?s Umbrella Design as president and executive creative director. At Umbrella Design, Rawat will execute a dual role within the fields of creative as well as design. ?I?m an ?arts person? and belong to the ?Mohammad Khan school of thought?. Nowadays, the design element is missing in advertising; I plan to bring in this design element into the advertising work I do at Umbrella so that the end product looks beautiful,? said Rawat.
Bipin Pandit is chief operating officer of Ad Club
The Advertising Club Bombay has promoted Bipin R Pandit as chief operating officer. Last month, at its annual general meeting , the industry body had decided to rename the club as The Advertising Club to give it a national format and scope. Pandit joined the Ad Club Bombay in 1998 as executive secretary. He was later made manager, then general manager, and now COO. ?When I had joined the Ad Club it was a club with one major event and some evening meetings. Today we have three major events?Emvies, Effies and Goafest,? he said.
