The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the appeal of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC)  in an ongoing dispute with Essar Steel on granting of iron ore mining lease in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

The state high court had last month stayed the execution of a mining lease granted to NMDC for 646 hectares.

Essar Steel, one of the applicants for the lease, had challenged the state’s decision to grant lease to the PSU.  A bench headed by chief justice H L Dattu refused to interfere with the order of the HC, which is hearing the issue. NMDC counsel said  the Centre had looked into every aspect before granting the lease.
