Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which is passing through Uttar Pradesh’s Agra on Sunday.
This overture followed the seat-sharing agreement between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who played a key role in finalizing the long-stalled deal between the two parties, also present at the event.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, “It’s been a year since we completed the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and walked 4,000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.”
“During that yatra, someone remarked to me that I was attempting to open a shop of love in a market of hate. Now, this is precisely what we, alongside Akhilesh Yadav and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are endeavoring to accomplish once more,” the former Congress president said.
Earlier this week, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra personally reached out to Akhilesh Yadav and accepted the SP’s offer of 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at the event, Yadav said, “In the coming days, the biggest challenge is to save democracy, and the Constitution, to fulfil the dreams of Dr BR Ambedkar, that have been ruined by the BJP…BJP haatao, desh ko bachao.”
Yadav is among the initial prominent Opposition figures to participate in the extensive nationwide foot march, which will conclude in Mumbai. Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee abstained from the rally during its passage through the state.
