The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has submitted its preliminary report on the AI 171 plane crash to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other relevant authorities, a report by ANI said citing top sources. A CNBC preliminary report suggests that the report includes only the initial findings from the black box data and does not provide any final conclusions.
The report further adds that a full investigation is still ongoing, and a detailed final report will be released in the coming months. The final report is expected to give a clearer and more complete picture of what led to the crash.
The Ahmedabad-London AI171 flight had crashed just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12. Over 260 people lost their lives in the crash.
While 241 were on the flight, including passengers and crew; 19 were on the ground. Only one passenger had miraculously survived. The deaths on the ground were also huge in number because the plane had crashed into a Medical College in Ahmedabad.
A week after the crash, three Air India training pilots in Mumbai tried to recreate possible situations that may have caused the accident. They used a flight simulator for the airline’s Boeing 787 aircraft to test if an electrical problem could lead to both engines failing, which would stop the plane from gaining height after takeoff.
However, their attempts were not successful in reproducing the issue. Officials said the findings from this simulation, along with other initial investigations, will be included in a report that will be made public later this week. The exact cause of the crash is still unknown.
