Ahead of the trust vote tomorrow, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress MLAs on Sunday arrive at Shamshabad airport in Hyderabad to fly back to Ranchi. The floor test of the new Champai Soren-led government is likely to be held in the Jharkhand Assembly tomorrow. The MLAs were staying at Leonia resort in Hyderabad.

Around 40 MLAs of the ruling coalition were flown to Hyderabad, after Champai Soren took oath as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, Congress leader Pranav Jha said that the alliance has “sufficient numbers”.

“We have sufficient numbers quite in fact more than the majority. We came because the BJP was still trying to break us…The threat of ED, CBI, IT was there. They are trying to break every opposition state,” he said.

A political crisis had emerged in Jharkhand after the arrest of former Jharkhand CM and JMM leader Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case over alleged illegal land ownership.

Just before his arrest, Hemant Soren had handed over his resignation to the Governor on Wednesday night, and soon after that MLAs led by Champai Soren staked claim to form the government.

However, Governor C P Radhakrishnan sought time, citing legal considerations. As the Governor sought more time, the MLAs grew anxious amid the possibility of “horse-trading”. Later, the Governor gave Champai Soren a go-ahead.

Meanwhile, a special court in Ranchi on Saturday allowed former Hemant Soren to participate in the trust vote in the state assembly on February 5.
