Several days after Simon Wong, the Singapore High Commissioner to India, cautioned that a car with a fake embassy number plate was spotted at the IGI airport, the Immigration department has taken action against four individuals, including two women from Punjab, an Indian Express report said on Wednesday. The security officials discovered that someone from that car went to meet these individuals on two different occasions.
On November 24, the Singapore envoy shared pictures of the fake embassy car on X, warning people about it and urging caution due to potential security risks. Following this, the immigration department and Delhi Police launched an investigation, the IE report said. They found that the car had been at the airport’s departure gate twice – once to meet two men on November 20 and then two women on November 23.
The report also said that further investigation revealed that the men flew to Canada while the women flew to the US. It was observed that when the driver met the two women, the car stayed inside the Airport premises for approximately two hours.
The immigration department issued lookout circulars against these four individuals to question them and identify the driver.
Security at Delhi airport was heightened after a meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) regarding recent threats posed by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, designated as an ‘individual terrorist’ and the founder of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) group. Pannun had released a video advising Sikhs not to fly on Air India aircraft after November 19, citing potential risks to their lives.
Following this meeting, security at Delhi’s IGI airport was increased, similar to measures taken during the G20 Summit. Additional security measures, such as baggage scanners and police checks, have been implemented to enhance safety for passengers.
