The attacks taking place against Hindus in Bangladesh are worrisome and these cannot be ignored at all, said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in an official press briefing on Friday. “Over 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities documented in Bangladesh by independent sources during tenure of interim govt,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
“The unremitting hostility against minorities in Bangladesh is a matter of grave concern. We condemn the recent killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh and expect that the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice,” Jaiswal said.

“India has rejected the false anti-India narrative being projected in Bangladesh and reiterated that maintaining law and order and security is the responsibility of the Bangladesh interim government. India is closely monitoring developments and has expressed grave concern over the continued hostility of minorities, including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists,” he added.
Thousands of incidents against minorities
Jaiswal said over 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities have been documented by sources during the tenure of the interim government. “These incidents cannot be brushed aside as mere media exaggerations or dismissed as political violence,” the MEA spokesperson added.

Bangladesh protests
On the return of BNP’s Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh after a 17 years of self-imposed exile, MEA said India supports free, fair polls in Bangladesh and this development should be seen in that context.
A Hindu man Dipu Chnadra Das was lynched by a mob on the allegations of blasphemy in a brutal manner, and his body was also set to fire amid the ongoing violent protests in the country.
