External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced Saturday that 17 Indian workers, who were ensnared into unsafe and illegal work in Laos, are currently on their way back home.
Jaishankar praised the Indian embassy in Laos for its successful efforts in the case, and also commended the Lao authorities for their support in facilitating the safe repatriation of the workers.
In a post on X, he said, “Modi ki Guarantee works for all at home and abroad. Seventeen Indian workers, lured into unsafe and illegal work in Laos, are on their way back home.” “Well done, @IndianEmbLaos. Thank Lao authorities for their support for the safe repatriation,” he added.
The announcement comes after the external affairs ministry issued a cautionary advisory on Thursday, warning Indian nationals about the dangers of falling prey to human traffickers offering lucrative job opportunities in Cambodia.
The ministry advised Indians seeking employment in Cambodia to thoroughly vet the background of potential employers to avoid exploitation.
