Former Karnataka Chief Minister and party’s state unit president BS Yeddyurappa has claimed that the saffron party can form the government within 24 hours in the state if it wins 22 of the 28 parliamentary seats in the coming Lok Sabha elections. “I am not telling you this is out of audacity. If the people of Karnataka give us 22 seats in the coming Lok Sabha elections, we will form the government in Karnataka within 24 hours,” Yeddyurappa said on Sunday at a public meeting.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won 17 seats while the Congress bagged 9. The Janata Dal (Secular) had won just two seats. At present, the BJP has 16 representations in the outgoing Lok Sabha.

Yeddyurappa also noted that there are at least 20 MLAs in Congress who are opposed to JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy heading the government. “20 MLAs from Congress have not accepted HD Kumaraswamy as their chief minister,” he said.

The remark comes just a few days after he claimed that the operation carried out by Indian Air Force (IAF) in Balakot of Pakistan would help the BJP win 22 seats in the general elections.

“The recent act of armed forces attacking Pakistan has turned the tide in Narendra Modi’s favour as the youth is happy after the attack. It will help us win 22 seats in Karnataka,” he had said.

The BJP has set a target of winning at least 22 seats in the general elections.

In the current Assembly, the BJP is single largest party with 104 seats. The Congress is the second largest party with 80 seats. It extended an unconditional support to the JD(S) after the Karnataka Assembly was delivered with a hung Assembly in the previous Assembly polls held in May 2018. The JD(S) has 37 MLAs in 224 chairs House.
