Haryana BJP vice president GL Sharma made a significant political shift by joining the Congress on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Accompanied by more than 250 office bearers and numerous workers from the BJP as well as other affiliated organisations, Sharma’s move was marked by a collective defection. The Congress, in a statement, emphasised the large-scale nature of the event.

Sharma previously held the position of chairman of the Dairy Development Corporation under the Haryana government. His return to the political fold was marked by significant support, with former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda extending his congratulations to Sharma on rejoining the Congress party.

“The Congress is the only party in the country that ensures the interests of all communities are protected. Together, we will work to make the State number one again in employment, development, sports, and investment,” Hooda stated.

In a boost to the Congress, several BJP members, including Gurugram district secretary Mahesh Vashishth, Rohtak Lok Sabha IT cell head Praveen Mudgil, legal cell member Beni Prasad Gaur and Bastiram, president of the Prajapati Samaj Gurugram, joined the party, according to a statement from Congress.
