The hearing in the Vodafone Idea adjusted gross revenue (AGR) case has once again been deferred by a week after the representative for the Department of Telecommunications sought more time in the matter during supreme court proceedings on Monday. the case will now be heard on October 13.
How did the case come about?
The case between the government of India, and the distressed telco is the result of a writ petition on September 9, contesting the additional AGR dues raised by the DoT for the year FY17. The telco has contended that since the AGR dues for the period have been crystallised by a supreme court order in 2020, the additional dues raised are illegal.
What has Tushar Mehta suggested?
Since then, the DoT, represented by Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta has indicated willingness to come to solution in the matter, since the government now owns nearly 50% in Vodafone Idea.
The DoT, in a letter dated August 13, raised additional AGR dues amounting to nearly Rs 10, 000 crore.
