MSMEs in Khadi: The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has inaugurated a renovated Khadi India outlet at the IIT Delhi campus in order to connect the youth with Khadi. Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), launched the outlet at the IIT Delhi shopping complex, according to a release by the Ministry of MSME.

Along with the launch of a new store, the KVIC Chairman also unveiled the latest collection of apparel designs developed by the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) in collaboration with the Khadi institutions. CoEK is a project of the MSME ministry in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to develop and design youthful designs to attract the youth towards Khadi and meet the requirements of the global market. 

In another event, the Union Minister of MSMEs Narayan Rane flagged off the Khadi Yatra and announced the ‘Khadi Mahotsav’ from October 2nd to October 31st in Mumbai. In his address, the minister highlighted the progress made by the Khadi and Village Industry sector with the four-fold growth in sales reaching Rs 1.34 lakh crore in FY2022-23, from Rs 33,135.90 crore in FY2014-15, growing by 306.29 per cent.

The minister also noted 248 per cent growth in the production of Khadi products from Rs 27,569.23 crore in FY15 to Rs 95,956.67 crore in FY23.

The Khadi Mahotsav is being launched by the KVIC under the MSME Ministry in collaboration with various ministries such as the Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, etc.

According to the release, over a hundred institutions are participating in the Mahotsav, representing Khadi products from different states such as Khadi clothes, silk sarees, dress material, kurtas, jackets, bedsheets, carpets, chemical-free shampoos, honey, and other household products, along with exquisite arts and handicrafts.
