Khadi sales: The Khadi retail store Khadi Bhawan under the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) at Connaught Place, Delhi has registered its highest-ever single-day sale of khadi products on this year’s Gandhi Jayanti. The store recorded sales worth Rs 1.52 crore on October 2. Notably, Prime Minister Modi had appealed to the nation to buy Khadi products on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti in his monthly program “Mann ki Baat” on September 24.
Prime Minister Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to hail the achievement. His post read, “The new record of the purchase of Khadi by our family members across the country shows how it has become a powerful symbol of public sentiment. I am confident that this love for Khadi will continue to create new records every day, which will give new strength to the vision of a self-reliant India.”
According to the sales data shared in the release by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the figures for the previous year’s Gandhi Jayanti stood at Rs 1.33 crore. Notably, the store at Connaught Place has crossed the benchmark Rs 1 crore single-day sale for the third consecutive year, with Rs 1.01 crore in 2021.

Commemorating Gandhi Jayanti, the ministry had also inaugurated a renovated Khadi India outlet at the IIT Delhi campus in order to connect the youth. Along with the launch of a new store, the KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar had also unveiled the latest collection of apparel designs developed by the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) in collaboration with the Khadi institutions.

Highlighting the progress made and the rising trend of khadi and village industries, MSME Minister Narayan Rane noted the four-fold growth in sales of khadi and village industries to Rs 1.34 lakh crore in FY23 from Rs 33,135 crore in FY15, growing by 306.29 per cent.
