The central government has approved Himachal Pradesh’s request to metal roads in rural areas under Phase IV of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV), Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced on Wednesday.
This decision will facilitate the metalling of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 kilometres of roads in rural areas, the minister said. Singh noted that he had raised the matter with Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, seeking assistance for improving road conditions in the state.
Expressing gratitude to the Centre, Singh stated that PMGSY-IV would play a vital role in strengthening rural road infrastructure, particularly enhancing connectivity in remote regions of Himachal Pradesh.
The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to restore road connectivity in areas affected by heavy snowfall. He assured that the department was working diligently to clear roads as quickly as possible, with adequate manpower and machinery deployed.
Given the ongoing tourism season, Singh emphasised the state government’s commitment to ensuring seamless and safe travel for both tourists and locals.
“The department is putting in all the efforts to clear the roads as early as possible, and adequate man and machinery has been deployed. Keeping in view the ongoing tourism season, the government was committed to ensure that tourists as well as locals enjoy “seamless and safe travel”, he said.
