The National Highways Authority of India has given an extension on the deadline for completing the Know Your Customer (KYCs) for FASTags. It has extended the timeline by a month setting the deadline to February 29, 2024. This will bring relief to a large number of vehicle owners.
Before the extension, January 31st was the last date to complete the KYC for FASTags. The Indian Highways Management Company Ltd, a company under the NHAI, is assessing the number of customers that are still out of the FASTag KYC compliance net. However, according to sources, only seven lakh multiple tags have been surrendered so far out of around 1.3 crore such tags.
It was earlier prompted to the vehicle owners to keep only the tag which was the latest purchase as others would be blacklisted after the extended deadline.
Officials have notified that there will not be any more extensions for the deadlines. NHAI has intended to implement the ‘one vehicle, one FASTag’ norm. It was also added that vehicle owners with more than one FASTag linked to a particular vehicle are required to visit their bank to surrender FASTags that were issued earlier.
According to the sources, FASTag issuing banks have been sending out alerts to users to complete their compliance if not done yet. NHAI officials have also informed of a number for the customers to be assisted. Customers can dial 1033 to get assistance on how to get their KYC done.
