Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Jammu, laid the foundation stone of multiple road projects on Tuesday (February 20). As per the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi also inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 32,000 crore in railway, aviation, road and other sectors on his Jammu visit.
Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway
PM laid the foundation stone of two packages covering 44.22 kilometers of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, connecting Jammu to Katra. Once completed, this expressway will not only facilitate pilgrims’ journeys to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine but also help in economic growth in the region.
Srinagar Ring Road
The second phase of the four-laning of the Srinagar Ring Road was also a focal point of PM Modi’s visit. This brownfield project, covering a distance of 24.7 kilometers from Sumbal to Wayul on NH-1, aims to alleviate traffic congestion in and around Srinagar city. This will also enhance connectivity to popular tourist destinations such as Manasbal Lake and Kheer Bhawani Temple, while significantly reducing travel time to Leh, Ladakh.
NH-01: Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri
The initiative also includes the upgrading of the 161-kilometer stretch of the Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri on NH-01. This project is expected to play a pivotal role in both strategic and economic development and will benefit the regions of Baramulla and Uri.
Construction of several Bypasses
Furthermore, the construction of Kulgam Bypass and Pulwama Bypass on NH-444, connecting Qazigund, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, Badgam, and Srinagar, promises to revolutionize the road infrastructure in the area.
These initiatives are anticipated to not only enhance the region’s infrastructure but also contribute significantly to the socio-economic progress of Jammu and its surrounding areas.
