Travelling between Delhi and Jaipur got significantly faster. A newly completed 66.9 km section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, known as the Bandikui-Jaipur Spur, has reduced the travel time between the two cities to just around three hours. The road was opened for trial use on July 2, and no toll will be charged for the 1—day test period, as per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Trial phase begins, and toll collection is to start soon

The new highway stretch interlinks Bandikui in Dausa district to Jaipur, offering a faster alternative to the usually congested NH-48 and NH-21 routes. Once tolling starts, the fare for a full trip from Jaipur is expected to range from Rs 600 to Rs 690.

NHAI officials have also confirmed that a forensic road safety audit and final inspections will be conducted during the toll-free period. After that, full commercial operation will start. The Bandikui Spur has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 1,368 crore and consists of multiple interchanges like Khuri for ensuring seamless traffic flow into Jaipur city.

During the trial, vehicles are permitted to travel at a speed limit of up to 120 km/hr. This Expressway is expected to lessen the commute time and will cut down fuel usage and logistics costs.  Commuters will now be able to drive from Bandikui to Jaipur within 30 minutes and will reach Jaipur in 2.5 hours to 3 hours, depending on the traffic flow.

Jaipur will now be directly connected to the Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai corridor

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari termed the project “strategically vital,” particularly for connecting Jaipur more directly to the Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai corridor. The expressway is likely to reduce pressure on the older routes, enhance road safety, and boost economic activity across Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

With this new expressway, tourists, daily commuters, and businesses are expected to benefit once the tolling and the expressway become fully operational. The Bandikui Spur marks another major milestone in India’s push for world-class road infrastructure.
