Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday inaugurated a six-lane flyover spanning 2.2 kilometers, connecting the Apsara border to Anand Vihar in East Delhi. The new flyover is expected to accommodate approximately 1.5 lakh vehicles daily, The Indian Express.

Atishi highlighted that the project, initially estimated at Rs 372 crore, was completed at a reduced cost of Rs 347 crore, resulting in a savings of Rs 25 crore. The flyover is designed to bypass three major red signals, easing traffic congestion at Ramprastha Colony, Vivek Vihar, and Shreshth Vihar.

This stretch has long been plagued by traffic jams.”But I am happy to announce that under the guidance of (AAP national convener) Arvind Kejriwal ji, the Delhi government has built this remarkable 2.2-km flyover at this major traffic congestion point…,” Atishi said.

“…every vehicle taking this flyover will save at least 12 minutes. More than 1.5 lakh people will use this flyover daily, saving about 40,300 litres of petrol and diesel. This will also reduce carbon emissions, which is equivalent to the air-cleaning capacity of around 5,900 trees,” she added.

The Chief Minister stated that the flyover would save 30,000 hours of manpower daily, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 tonnes, and generate annual savings of Rs 138 crore for the public.

Before the AAP government assumed office in 2014-15, Delhi ranked as the fourth most congested city in the world, the CM said, adding that following the initiatives undertaken by the government, the city has improved its position to 44th globally. The inauguration of the Anand Vihar flyover marks the completion of the 38th infrastructure project—comprising flyovers, underpasses, and elevated corridors—by the AAP government over the past decade.
