In a significant move to address the concern of cleanliness and hygiene during train travel, Union Minister of Railways, Aswhini Vaishnaw on Thursday launched a pilot project in Rajasthan unveiling covers for the blankets. The pilot scheme has been launched for the Jaipur-Asarwa Express, with further nationwide expansion soon.

Addressing the people on the occasion, Minister Vaishnaw said that the step has been taken to address the issue that passengers have raised multiple times.

“Blankets have been used in our railway system for years, but there has always been a doubt in the minds of our passengers. To remove that doubt, a new initiative has been taken today – the introduction of blanket covers,” Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

‘Purely passenger centric’

The minister said that the railways has taken several initiatives to transform the railway sector. In his address at an event at Khatipura Railway Station in Jaipur, he said, “Today, a big step is being taken to install blanket covers. This is a purely passenger-centric change.”

“Even small stations have seen improved facilities. Platform height, its length, and the construction of covers on platforms. Signboards are being installed for passengers’ information. These things have been implemented at around 65 stations in Rajasthan,” he added.

“Honorable Railway Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw ji inaugurated the facility of blanket covers in the air-conditioned coaches of the Jaipur-Asarva rail service at Khati Pura Jaipur Railway Station in Rajasthan,” the Ministry of Railways said.
