The South Central Railway (SCR) Zone achieved a milestone in infrastructural development with the completion and commissioning of a 20.3 km-long electrified third line between Karavadi and Surareddipalem in Andhra Pradesh. The newly completed section in Prakasam district is part of the Vijayawada-Gudur tripling and electrification project, marking a significant advancement in railway infrastructure in the southern state.
Expansion of Railway Facilities
An SCR Zone official highlights that the tripling of this stretch results in a continuous 81 km third line between Bapatla and Surareddipalem, enhancing railway connectivity and efficiency.
Vital Connectivity Link
The Vijayawada-Gudur route serves as a crucial link between the northern, eastern, and southern regions of India, playing a pivotal role in the transportation network.
Addressing Congestion
The rising number of passenger and freight trains along the coastal route has led to congestion, prompting the initiation of the third line project in 2015-16 to alleviate traffic and enhance operational efficiency.
Project Progress
Under the supervision of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), significant progress has been made, with completed sections including Gudur-Singarayakonda and Bapatla-Karavadi.
The completion of the Karavadi-Surrareddipalem section marks a total electrified third line stretch of 209 km, contributing to improved railway infrastructure and operational capacity. SCR Zone’s general manager emphasizes that the completion of the Vijayawada-Gudur project will substantially reduce congestion along the Grand Trunk route, enhancing overall railway operations and efficiency.
