Indian Railways has announced that only passengers with confirmed tickets will be allowed entry at 60 major railway stations across the country. This move aims to prevent overcrowding and enhance passenger safety. The policy will soon be implemented in key railway stations across major cities.

Indian railway stations often experience heavy crowds, especially during holidays and festivals, as many people visit to drop off or receive relatives. This new rule is expected to reduce unnecessary congestion and ensure smoother passenger movement.

The restriction will be enforced at 60 of the busiest railway stations, including: New Delhi Railway Station (Delhi), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai), Howrah Junction (Kolkata), Chennai Central (Chennai) and Bengaluru City Railway Station (Bengaluru).

Additional stations may be added based on crowd management needs.

While the policy may cause temporary inconvenience, officials believe it will ultimately improve the travel experience. Passengers are advised to book tickets in advance and ensure they have a confirmed reservation before arriving at the station.

This initiative is particularly crucial during peak seasons, as it will help manage platform congestion by allowing only ticketed passengers access. The decision follows a meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, where senior railway officials emphasised the need for effective crowd control measures at high-traffic stations.
