A drone’s-eye view shared by Southern Railway on Twitter showcased the CRS trial run between Pamban and Mandapam, with the newly constructed Pamban Bridge standing tall against the breathtaking expanse of the sea.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Southern Circle, Bengaluru, A.M. Chowdhary, led the statutory inspection of the newly laid Broad Gauge line between Pamban and Mandapam stations today, November 14. The inspection included a detailed assessment of the engineering marvel that is the new Vertical Lift Girder Span Bridge, a significant feature designed for seamless rail and marine traffic across the Palk Strait.

Demonstration of Advanced Vertical Lift Mechanism

During the inspection, officials demonstrated the vertical lift mechanism, emphasizing the bridge’s advanced capabilities. Following the inspection, a high-speed trial run was conducted on the newly laid Broad Gauge line. The train successfully reached speeds of 90 km/h on the section and maintained 80 km/h on the bridge, marking a major milestone for the region’s rail connectivity.

Key officials, including B. Kamalakar Reddy, Chief Project Manager (Coordination) of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), Sushil Kumar Maurya, Chief Administrative Officer, Construction/Chennai Egmore, and Sharad Srivastava, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division, were present for the event, witnessing the successful trial that underscores the project’s significance.
