What Ministry of Railways said?
In response to concerns over a potential stampede, the Ministry of Railways clarified that although there was a heavy rush, there was no stampede or stampede-like situation. The ministry emphasized that the protocol of guiding unreserved passengers through the designated holding area was effectively utilized.
This incident brings back memories of the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on February 16, 2025, where 18 lives were lost and 15 others were injured. The stampede occurred due to a massive crowd surge as passengers headed to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh festival. Despite efforts, the rapid escalation made crowd control challenging.
