Local train services between Kasara and Titwala stations in Maharashtra’s Thane district, adjacent to Mumbai, came to a halt on Sunday (July 7) morning due to heavy rains and a fallen tree, officials reported.

“As per RGM Machine’s report, Due To Heavy Rain at 05.30 Hrs, Soil came on the tracks on the Down Line between ATGAON, at KM 96/42. Engineering Control declared Track Unsafe at 06.20 Hrs,” DRM Mumbai CR said in a tweet.

Fallen tree, mud on tracks halt train services on Kalyan-Kasara route

At approximately 6:30 am, soil slid onto the tracks between Atgaon and Thansit stations because of the downpour, while a tree fall obstructed the tracks near Vashind station, disrupting rail traffic on the vital Kalyan-Kasara route.

A spokesperson from the Central Railway (CR) confirmed the temporary suspension of train services between Kasara and Titwala, declaring the tracks unsafe around the same time.

“Train services between Kasara and Titwala have been suspended temporarily,” a spokesperson of the Central Railway (CR) said.

Tilted OHE disrupts rail services near Vashind

Additionally, another CR spokesperson mentioned that an overhead equipment (OHE) pole had tilted, causing a train’s pantograph to become entangled near Vashind. Restoration efforts were promptly initiated, aiming to clear the tracks and resume normal operations swiftly.

Suburban services are crucial to Mumbai and its adjoining areas of Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, catering to over 30 lakh commuters daily on the CR’s suburban network.
