Local train services on Mumbai’s Western Railway network experienced disruptions on Tuesday (July 30) morning due to technical issues at Santacruz and Bhayandar stations, officials reported. The problems, identified as “points failures,” involved faults in the track-changing equipment that allows trains to switch tracks.

According to the officials, these issues were resolved quickly, with the failed points at Bhayandar fixed within 45 minutes and those at Santacruz restored shortly thereafter.

Local train stations overcrowded

Despite the swift resolution, commuters faced delays of 25 to 30 minutes, leading to overcrowding on trains and at stations during the rush hour.

This disruption particularly impacted office-goers and daily travelers. A commuter traveling from Virar to Churchgate noted the swelling crowd at stations.

According to a Western Railway spokesperson, the points failure at Bhayandar occurred at 5:00 a.m. and was fixed by 5:45 a.m., while the Santacruz issue arose at 5:20 a.m. and was resolved by 5:50 a.m.

The Western Railway network, which serves over 1,300 suburban services and caters to nearly 3.5 million passengers daily, extends from Churchgate in South Mumbai to Dahanu in the Palghar district.
