The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is making significant progress on its ambitious station improvement plan, aimed at upgrading 18 key stations across the Central and Western Railway suburban networks, according to Indian Express. The project, targeting completion by 2026, seeks to alleviate overcrowding and enhance passenger convenience with expanded platforms, new foot-over bridges (FOBs), elevated decks, and modern amenities.

Progress Report

  1. Khar Station: The station is fully upgraded, featuring a new deck, FOB, elevators, and escalators.
  2. Kandivali Station:
    • A 263-meter-long deck connecting South and North FOBs is complete.
    • A 4-meter-wide skywalk is operational.
    • Remaining work is on track for completion by 2025.
  3. Ghatkopar Station:
    • Phase 1 is complete, while Phase 2 recently began.
  4. Other Stations: Work is progressing steadily across all other identified locations.

This massive initiative aims to streamline passenger movement and reduce bottlenecks at some of Mumbai’s busiest railway stations. The enhanced facilities are expected to improve commuter experience and address long-standing issues of overcrowding in the suburban rail network.
