The Ministry of Railway has approved a substantial financial allocation of Rs 16.75 crore for the final survey and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of two major new rail line projects in Chhattisgarh. The state government confirmed the approval on Saturday (August 17), marking a significant boost to regional infrastructure.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced that these projects, spanning a combined length of 670 kilometers, are set to improve connectivity and development in the Bastar and Surguja regions.
Gadchiroli to Bijapur rail line
The Centre has earmarked Rs 12.25 crore for the development of a 490-kilometer rail line connecting Gadchiroli to Bijapur, passing through Bacheli. This new line is anticipated to bring transformative growth to the Bastar region, enhancing economic opportunities and accessibility.
Korba to Ambikapur rail line
In addition, Rs 4.50 crore has been sanctioned for a 180-kilometer rail line between Korba and Ambikapur. This project aims to further connect and develop the Surguja region, facilitating improved transport and economic integration.
These rail projects fall under the South East Central Railway zone and are expected to significantly impact regional development, enhancing transportation networks and boosting local economies.
Chief Minister Sai praised the Centre’s commitment to infrastructure development in the state and emphasized the positive changes these new rail lines will bring.
