The Indian Railways is tirelessly transforming India’s rail network, working around the clock. From initiatives like Vande Bharat and the Amrit Bharata Station Scheme to the construction of new railway bridges, every aspect of the infrastructure is being upgraded to offer the best experience for passengers.

The Railways is proud of its achievements and often shares them with the people. Recently, it shared a video showing some of India’s Railways bridges, calling them ‘marvels of engineering’. The video showed four of our Railway bridges – Chenab Bridge, Bogibeel Bridge, Anji Khad Bridge and New Pamban Bridge.

Railways meant to celebrate these infrastructure marvels with the post. In the video, the bridges are shown from various angles that will instill a sense of pride in the viewers.

Let’s learn a bit about these bridges.

Chenab Bridge

This is the world’s highest single-arch railway bridge so far and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year. It runs between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, and serves as a vital connection from Katra to Banihal. Constructed at a height of 1,178 feet above the riverbed, it is 35 metres taller than Paris’ Eiffel Tower.

Bogibeel Bridge

This 4,940-metre-long bridge is India’s longest rail-cum road bridge. It is situated on the Brahmaputra river is also the country’s first fully welded steel bridge with no joints.It has a serviceable period of around 120 years and reduces the travel time to four hours between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It also cuts the travel time between Delhi to Dibrugarh by around three hours to 34 hours.

Anji Khad Bridge

Marking another first for India, this bridge is the country’s first cable-stayed bridge and the first-of-its-kind. The Anji Khad bridge is situated in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. It connects the Katra and Reasi section of Jammu-Baramulla line and  is about 80 kilometres by road from the Jammu city.

New Pamban Bridge

This will be India’s first vertical-lift bridge which will our mainland with Rameswaram island. The 2.08-kilometre-long bridge is being constructed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited. As per an Indian Express report, the deadline set by to make the bridge operational is June 30.
