The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website on Thursday (November 23) encountered a significant technical glitch, causing disruptions in the booking of e-tickets for approximately two hours. The issue was officially acknowledged by IRCTC through posts on their official social media accounts around noon.
The railway corporation attributed the temporary disruption to an ongoing technical problem. “E-ticket booking is temporarily affected due to technical reasons. Technical team is working on it and booking will made available soon,” IRCTC said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 12:04 pm.
IRCTC website, app down
Users who were attempting to secure tickets under both the Tatkal and General quota expressed frustration as login issues persisted on both the IRCTC website and its mobile application.
Many users reported encountering a 502 Bad Gateway error when utilising the app. The situation was further exacerbated as some users received downtime messages, especially during IRCTC’s scheduled nightly downtime at 11 PM. To compound matters, individuals reported instances of payments being deducted from their accounts without corresponding booking history visible on the platform.
The incident underscores the challenges posed by technical glitches in online ticketing systems, impacting the travel plans of numerous users reliant on the IRCTC platform.
