The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned Rs 6,456 crore for three significant railway projects, according to a statement from the Ministry of Railways. This approval marks a major step towards enhancing India’s railway infrastructure, aimed at boosting logistical efficiency and economic growth.

Enhanced Connectivity and Mobility

The approved projects will improve connectivity by linking previously unconnected areas, increasing line capacity, and modernizing transportation networks. The new line projects are designed to provide direct routes and enhance mobility, while the multi-tracking initiative will reduce congestion on busy railway sections. The upgrades are expected to support the vision of a New India by fostering regional development and creating job opportunities.

These projects are part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which focuses on integrated multi-modal connectivity. Covering seven districts across four states—Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh—the initiatives will expand the railway network by approximately 300 kilometers. The development will introduce 14 new stations and improve access to two aspirational districts, Nuapada and East Singhbum.

Impact on Villages and Freight Capacity

The infrastructure improvements will connect around 1,300 villages and benefit approximately 30 lakh people. Additionally, the projects are set to boost freight traffic capacity by 45 million tonnes per annum. The railways’ environmental benefits include reduced oil imports and lower CO2 emissions, contributing to India’s climate goals and sustainable development.
