Today, a significant milestone was achieved with the successful completion of a load deflection test on the New Pamban Bridge. The trial was conducted using twin GOC WDG4D locomotives from the Golden Rock Shed.

The test was carried out by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) in collaboration with the Structural Engineering Research Center (SERC) in Chennai. The purpose of the test was to assess the structural integrity and performance of the bridge under load conditions.

Importance of the New Pamban Bridge

The New Pamban Bridge, a critical infrastructure project for the Southern Railway, is designed to enhance connectivity between the mainland and Rameswaram. The successful trial run marks a key step in ensuring the bridge’s safety and reliability for future operations.

The load deflection test involved evaluating the bridge’s response to the weight and movement of the locomotives. The successful outcome demonstrates the bridge’s capability to handle the operational demands and confirms its readiness for service.

Southern Railway officials expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that the test was a crucial component of the bridge’s commissioning process. The bridge is expected to significantly improve transportation efficiency in the region once it becomes operational.
