The upgrading of signalling systems of Indian Railways is a continuous process and the national transporter has taken various measures to improve the safety in train operation. Recently, the Ministry of Railways has completed the automatic signalling work on the entire Pune-Lonavala section of Maharashtra. The move comes following the commissioning of the last Khadki to Pune stretch on November 26.
Significance of the commissioned work for Automatic Signalling between Khadki and Pune section:-
This will improve the line capacity of the Pune-Lonavala section and will facilitate safe and seamless movement of trains on the stretch in the state. It will also minimise the human dependency for the train operation. The 64-km-long area falls under the administrative control of the Central Railway (CR) zone.
Existing Automatic signalling sections of Central railway are-
The Central Railway has completed the Automatic Signalling work on the 339.14-km-long so far. Of these, the zonal railways has completed the Automatic Signalling work on 201.08 km in the Mumbai Division i.e. between CSMT-Kalyan, CSMT-Panvel, Thane-Nerul-Kharkopar, Kalyan-Karjat, Kalyan-Titwala, Diva-Dativali and Diva-Panvel sections.
The Bhusawal Division has completed the Automatic Signalling work on the 55.32-km-long route between Jalgaon-Bhusawal and Bhusawal-Bodwad routes. The Nagpur Division has completed the work on the 18.74 route km i.e. between Khapri-Nagpur and Nagpur-Godhni routes. The Pune Division has completed the work on a 64-km-long route on the Lonavala-Pune stretch.
Ongoing works of New Automatic signalling in Central Railway:-
The Central Railway has targeted to complete the Automatic Signalling work on the 61.27-km-long route during this financial year. These are – (a) 38.35 km on the Biswabridge-Nandura-Jalamb-Shegaon section of Bhusaval Division and (b) 22.92 km on the Wardha-Kaotha of Nagpur Division.
