Gujarat is set to get a big boost in railway infrastructure with new projects worth over Rs 1,400 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch several key initiatives, including flagging off a passenger train between Katosan Road and Sabarmati and starting a special freight service for cars from Bechraji.
These projects aim to make travel and goods movement safer, faster, and more convenient for people in North Gujarat. Let’s dive into some details on how these projects are going to benefit the common man.
Doubling of railway lines – cost and benefits
The projects cover several upgrades, including doubling the 65 km Mehsana–Palanpur rail line at a cost of Rs 537 crore, converting the 37 km Kalol–Kadi–Katosan Road line to broad gauge for Rs 347 crore, and converting the 40 km Becharaji–Ranuj line for Rs 520 crore.
Passenger train between Katosan Road and Sabarmati
PM Modi will be flagging off a passenger train between Katosan Road and Sabarmati. This will not only provide easier access for people to travel to religious destinations but also give a boost to economic activity at the grassroots level.
Car-loaded freight train service from Bechraji to be inaugurated
PM Modi will also launch a new car-loaded freight train service from Becharji which will improve connectivity with Gujarat’s industrial hubs. The service is expected to make the logistics network faster and more reliable, while also creating new jobs and supporting growth in the state’s economy and manufacturing sector.
Railway overbridge on Ahmedabad-Viramgam road, six-lane underpass, and more
The Prime Minister will open the widened Viramgam–Khudad–Rampura road and lay the foundation for six-lane underpasses on the Ahmedabad–Mehsana–Palanpur route, along with a new railway overbridge on the Ahmedabad–Viramgam road. These projects aim to boost industry, make transport smoother, and bring more economic opportunities to the region.
Better connectivity in THESE areas
Authorities have said that the new railway projects will improve railway and road connectivity across Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad districts, making travel faster and safer. The added line capacity will also reduce congestion on the busy Ahmedabad–Delhi route, allowing more passenger trains to run and making freight movement smoother.
