Charlapalli Railway Station has been upgraded with a new terminal and second entry, set to be inaugurated on December 28, 2024, by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways. The event will also feature G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Coal & Mines, along with public representatives and senior railway officials.

The redevelopment, costing nearly Rs. 413 crores, aims to transform Charlapalli into a key terminal for the Hyderabad-Secunderabad twin city region. This development comes in response to increasing passenger demand and to reduce congestion at existing terminals like Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampalli.

Strategic Location and Features

Charlapalli, situated on Hyderabad’s rapidly developing eastern side near the Outer Ring Road, has been identified as a prime location for a terminal. The station’s new facilities include:

  • Modern Terminal Building: Equipped with six booking counters, separate waiting halls, an upper-class waiting area, and an executive lounge. The first floor offers a cafeteria, restaurant, and restrooms.
  • Enhanced Passenger Amenities: Nine platforms with seven lifts and six escalators for smooth passenger movement, two spacious Foot Over Bridges (12m and 6m wide), and illuminated facade lighting.
  • Parking and Accessibility: Ample parking for four-wheelers, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers, along with a dedicated bus bay.

Expanded Capacity

The station’s redevelopment includes four new high-level platforms and extensions to the existing five platforms to accommodate full-length trains. Ten additional lines bring the total capacity to 19 lines, allowing the station to handle an extra 15 pairs of train services.

Safety and Connectivity

The station is equipped with advanced safety and connectivity measures such as:

  • CCTV Surveillance: Round-the-clock monitoring for enhanced security.
  • Public Announcement System: For all platforms.
  • Digital Displays: Coach indication boards, train indication boards, and “Trains at a Glance” boards.
