The number of broadband subscribers in India crossed the 1 billion mark in November 2025, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Wednesday. 

At the end of November, the country had 1.004 billion broadband users, including 958.54 million mobile broadband and 45.11 million wireline broadband users, the subscriber data disclosed by the sector regulator indicates. 

Decade of Digital Transformation

“In the last 10 years, the broadband subscriber base in India has increased by more than six times. There were 131.49 million broadband subscribers at the end of November 2015, which grew to 1 billion at the end of November 2025,” Trai said in a press statement.

During the month, market leader Reliance Jio added 1.4 million net new subscribers, while Bharti Airtel 1.2 million. Vodafone Idea’s monthly churn moderated to 1 million in November, compared to 2 million in the previous month. State-owned BSNL registered a net addition of 421,514 users. 

Jio’s total subscriber base at the end of the month was 486.1 million, while Airtel’s was 394.9 million and Vodafone Idea’s was 199.7 million. BSNL’s subscriber base at the end of November was 93 million. 

Jio’s market share in November rose marginally to 41.41% from 41.36% in October. Airtel’s subscriber market share in November also rose marginally to 33.64 as compared from 33.59% in October. The increase in monthly customer churn resulted in further market share loss for Vodafone Idea to 17.01% versus 17.13% in October. BSNL’s share of user base rose marginally to 7.92% from 7.9% in October.

According to the data, active subscribers base accounted for 92.93% of the total wireless subscribers.

Airtel Challenges Jio in 5G Fixed Wireless

For the first time, Airtel’s 5G FWA additions at  251,095 users outpaced Jio’s net additions. In November, Jio reported an increase of 250,274 FWA customers. As a result, Jio’s 5G FWA base now stands at 7.6 million as compared to 7.4 million in October and Airtel’s at 2.7 million as compared to 2.5 million in October. The total FWA base in the country in November was 10.4 million.
