Indian techies working for American companies is not a novel practice. This has been part of the corporate culture in the United States since the 1990s. According to recent discussions on a variety of social media platforms, foreign-born workers are now occupying the majority of high-paying jobs in the United States. According to American internet users, this has also caused many hiring managers to only hire foreign-born employees, leaving native-born workers with few opportunities.

A viral post on X, on the other hand, has sparked a heated national discussion by warning of an impending storm in the US tech sector. According to the widely shared post, the rate and type of job losses in the technology sector have taken a very concerning turn that could have long-term effects on the nation’s labour force and economic structure.

Why are jobs going to foreign born workers?

The post claims that over 75,000 tech jobs have been lost so far in 2025, a startling number that represents a nearly 40% increase over the already devastating layoffs of 2024. The direction of the new jobs, however, is more worrisome. They assert that foreign workers, many of whom are on temporary visas like the H-1B, are filling 82% of all new tech jobs. Offshoring, on the other hand, is accelerating at an unprecedented rate as businesses covertly relocate entire operations abroad and establish what the poster refers to as “shadow economies,” remote workforces in nations like Eastern Europe, the Philippines, and India that now function as silent substitutes for closed U.S. offices.

The post makes analogies to the manufacturing exodus of the late 20th century, when American jobs disappeared to China and Mexico, leaving entire communities without a means of subsistence. With regard to the high-paying, white-collar tech jobs that were once the cornerstone of America’s middle-class promise, the author cautions that Silicon Valley might be repeating the same error.

The post states, “They may get away with replacing low-paying jobs, but what happens if you take away all the good jobs and give them to foreigners, denying young Americans the chance to advance in their careers? You can never take back what you are f***ing with.

“This is so shameful”

Netizens poured in their opinions on the post. A user said, “My husband was part of the layoffs this year…he was a senior engineer at FB/Meta for 14 years. Literally lead the total rewriting of both the FB app and Messenger in his time there…rockstar code monkey, if you will. The replacement of American, senior engineers with cheap, entry-level coders will destroy the company. They can’t code at the higher levels, so infrastructure code that is scalable is being degraded into hacked garbage. Shameful. Zuck should be considered anti-American for what he’s doing to his US, senior engineers (many of whom are legal immigrants).”

“I know all too well how this works. I spent many months in India and Philippines working with support staff there. You will never convince me those techs are better or on par with US staff. It’s 100% about cost, so it’s not even a knowledge gap with US workers,” added a netizen.

A user noted,” Silicon Valley sold out the country for cheap code and bigger profit margins. While American kids rack up debt for degrees in computer science, these tech tyrants hand the jobs to foreign H-1B hires like candy, shipping the rest overseas to God knows where. It’s not just betrayal — it’s economic treason. We already watched manufacturing get gutted, now they’re coming for white-collar talent too. This isn’t innovation — it’s annihilation. You wanna save the middle class? Start by torching the H-1B loophole and force these billion-dollar companies to invest in AMERICANS again. Enough is enough.”

“Nothing can be done about it. If you don’t bring them, these CEOs will go to India and set up their shop. Atleast, when they bring people in, they earn and spend in America, which supports many other sectors. Think twice and don’t blame the hard working people. Complain the money hungry CEO pigs who make Billions in salaries, stock options and bonus,” said another.

“American capitalism has always chased cheap labour & consumerism. This is not new. The Irish went to the US and were mocked. This is no different except “the invading Indians” are in the U.S. legally, in middle class America & educated. Poor Indian uber drivers are ok though…?,” added a netizen.
