B1/B2 visa approved to watch FIFA World Cup in the USA, applicant shares important points to follow
An Indian couple shares their smooth US visa interview experience for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, highlighting patience, humour, and the importance of strong home ties for visa approval.
The road to obtaining a US visa is often a long, nerve-wracking process. For one Indian couple, however, the journey to securing their visas for the 2026 World Cup in the United States was quite an easy one.
Their visa interview at the US embassy in New Delhi began like many others, a long wait as hundreds of applicants stood in line for their biometric scans and interviews.
“We spent about 3.5 hours at the embassy,” the traveller recalled in a social media post. “I saw many people fainting because of the heat, which was concerning. I really hope it didn’t affect anyone’s interview,” they said.
The couple, who had applied together, approached the window with high hopes of securing their visas. The interviewer, a US consular officer, greeted them warmly and began with a series of straightforward questions.
What happened during the interview?
When asked about the purpose of their visit, the applicant confidently explained their plans to attend the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the US “We’d really love to visit for the World Cup next year,” they said.
“I went to Qatar for the last World Cup, but this time I want to go with my wife to the US We’re both really looking forward to it.” The officer seemed satisfied with the answer.
The officer then turned to the applicant’s job, asking what they did for a living. The applicant briefly outlined their role and responsibilities at their current job, mentioning that they had been working there for four months.
However, they did not stop there. “I also told her about my previous work experience, which spans over six years,” they added.
The next question was about income. “How much do you earn?” the officer asked. Without hesitation, the applicant responded in both Indian rupees and US dollars, making sure to provide a clear picture of their financial situation.
Turning to the applicant’s wife, the officer asked, “What about you? What do you do?” She smiled and answered that she is a homemaker and helps care for her single mother, which seemed to resonate with the officer.
The applicant mentioned their passion for travel, explaining that they had recently visited several countries, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the UAE for their honeymoon.
“I joked that since getting married, my solo travel days are over,” they laughed. The officer smiled and said, “So it’s your fault.”
Next, the officer asked a more serious question: “How long have you been working in your current company?” The applicant answered, “Four months,” and quickly added the additional context about their extensive experience in their previous role.
When asked if they had any relatives in the US, the applicant confirmed that they did not, except for a younger brother who lives and works in Dubai. Finally, the officer looked up, smiled, and said, “Congratulations, your visas have been approved.”
