F-1 visa news: An Indian student’s F-1 visa application has taken a surprise turn after being approved at the US Embassy in Bangkok. The applicant who traveled to Thailand for the interview on July 21, 2025 shared their experience online and others are worried too. The details of the ordeal were shared by the Indian student on Reddit.
F-1 visa status changed from approved to refused
Student said, “During the interview the officer said everything looked good. Same day CEAC status showed Approved. But within 24-48 hours the status changed to Refused and has been that way since.”
Student didn’t receive any 221(g) slip, refusal letter or email. Despite the refusal status, their passport is with the embassy and no additional documents have been requested.
Administrative Processing Delay
From what student gathered it might be an administrative processing. “I hope to hear from others who have gone through similar experience: Anyone else applied from 3rd country and experienced this? If your status showed Refused after approval — how long did it take to resolve? Has anyone else interviewed recently at Bangkok and is waiting in admin processing?” they wrote.
With program start dates approaching fast, the uncertainty is growing. For now student is looking for insights from others who have gone through similar delays especially those who applied from 3rd country.
