H-1B visa: A Reddit user shared a detailed post about their experience of returning to India after 12 years in the United States, citing H-1B visa uncertainty, lack of belonging, and wanting their child to be closer to grandparents as the main reasons for the move.

“It’s been 6 months since I moved back, and every day I feel like I’m not gelling well with life here,” the user wrote, describing frustrations with infrastructure, civic issues, and toxic work culture.

Struggles With Civic Life and Daily Challenges

The user highlighted several daily irritations, including poor air quality, extreme heat, traffic chaos, and negligent government officials. They noted, “People (even educated ones) openly littering with no sense of responsibility toward the country.” Fitness and diet routines have also suffered, with gyms not maintaining proper conditions and healthy food being harder to access.

Work culture emerged as another major concern. The user explained, “Promotions and recognition go to those who please senior management, not necessarily to those adding real value. That’s just not me—I’d rather be rewarded for skills and contributions.”

Seeking Better Standard of Living Abroad

Financially independent and following the 4% rule, the Reddit user is currently building a SaaS product but feels mentally drained by daily struggles in India. They expressed interest in moving to a country that offers good infrastructure, healthcare, education, and an immigration-friendly path to citizenship without requiring large investment visas.

“I do have a plan in motion—I’m building my own SaaS product and will launch it soon. Once it’s live, I’ll quit my job and focus on it fully,” they wrote. They are now looking for recommendations for countries that provide a better standard of living while allowing them to focus on their work and family life.
