In an attempt to raise its ridership, the Pune Metro has decided it will soon open parking facilities at eight of its stations on the operational route, The Indian Express reported citing officials.
Which stations will have the parking spaces?
The parking facilities will be made available for parking two-wheelers and four-wheelers at PCMC Station, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Phugewadi, Bopodi, Shivajinagar, Civil Court, Swargate, Ideal Colony, and Mangalwarpeth stations. Commuters will be able to avial this facility only during Metro hours, officials have said.
The Indian Express reported that the Pune Metro has said that those having a valid Metro ticket will be offered a 25% discount on the parking fee. It is crucial to note that the discount will be given only on tickets issued on the same day for the services on both the operational routes with the originating or terminating station being the Metro station where the parking space is situated.
Pune Metro Executive Director Hemant Sonawane said that they are working to provide last-mile connectivity for commuters. “The parking facility will be in addition to that so the commuters are able to reach Metro stations with ease,” he said.
Bicycle, Four-wheeler parking
Among the eight stations, bicycle parking is offered exclusively at Sant Tukaram Nagar and Shivajinagar. Meanwhile, four-wheeler parking is accessible at PCMC station, Sant Tukaram Nagar station, Shivajinagar, and Civil Court stations. Additionally, all eight stations will provide parking facilities for two-wheelers.
Parking facility and charges
The parking charges will be inclusive of GST, the report clarified. In addition to hourly parking fees, there is an option for monthly subscription passes. However, this is only available to users who possess a valid Metro travel pass for the subscription duration.
A fixed nominal fee of Rs 5 for 24 hours will be charged to commuters who opt to store their helmet at the parking area.
