Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worth Rs 6,640 crore from Jamui, Bihar, on Friday, during an event commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda, celebrated as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.’ The event paid tribute to Munda’s legacy, with Modi unveiling a commemorative coin and a postal stamp in his honor.
Virtual Inauguration of Tribal Housing Projects
Modi also virtually participated in the ‘Grih Pravesh’ ceremony for 11,000 houses constructed for tribal families under the PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN). The newly unveiled projects span infrastructure, healthcare, education, and livelihood generation, aiming to uplift tribal regions, according to an official statement.
To improve healthcare accessibility, Modi launched 23 mobile medical units (MMUs) under PM-JANMAN and an additional 30 MMUs under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) for remote tribal areas. The PM also inaugurated 10 Eklavya Model Residential Schools and 300 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras to promote entrepreneurship and boost livelihoods.
Additionally, Modi inaugurated two Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museums in Chhindwara and Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, along with two Tribal Research Institutes in Srinagar and Gangtok, to preserve tribal heritage and history. He laid foundation stones for 500 km of new roads and 100 multi-purpose community centers in tribal regions, as well as 25,000 houses under PM-JANMAN and 1.16 lakh houses under DAJGUA. The development projects also include 370 hostels for tribal students, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities.
