A common consultant for the proposed Kanjurmarg depot architectural work and staff quarters will be appointed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). A tender for the same was floated earlier. Bids can be submitted by October 16 at a deposit of Rs 17.34 lakh, The Indian Express reported.

In Kanjurmarg, an area measuring nearly 15 hectares has been earmarked for the construction of the depot under the elevated Metro Line 6 from Swami Samarth nagar to Vikhroli Eastern Express Highway.

A tender will soon be floated for the appointment of a contractor for the construction of the depot, an official said.

Land given without permit?

The Salt Commission Office of Mumbai division has claimed ownership of the 15 hectares of land acquired by the MMRDA in Kanjurmarg, adding that the Mumbai suburban collector office handed over the land without their permission.

Mumbai’s Metro Line 6

The 15.31-kilometre Metro Line 6 is over 60% ready and is being constructed with the funding from the National Development Bank (NDB). The metro line was approved by the state in 2017. It is expected to be completed by November or December 2024. The elevated corridor passes through Metro Line 2A, Western Railway at Jogeshwari, Metro Line -7, WEH, Metro line-3, Metro line-4 and Central Railway at Kanjurmarg.

Once operational, about 30% of the road traffic of Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road is expected to shift to Metro Line 6. This elevated corridor will have India’s tallest station ‘Kanjurmarg’ at a height equivalent to a 10-storeyed building. It is also the city’s only Metro with a flyover under it.

As of now the tallest Metro corridor is the Metro Line 4 in Delhi near Haiderpur. It stands 28 metres tall from ground level.
